Apparently, indigenous Australians were hunting kangaroo, wallaby and emu. Other foods widely consumed included bogong moths, lizards, snakes… Well… Australian cuisine nowadays shows more diversity, coming from different immigration waves.
We are far from having tried everything. Actually we miss many. But here are my latest meals…
One iconic dish in Australia : the meat pie, hugely popular !
According to Wikipedia, The popular brand Four’N’Twenty produces 50,000 pies per hour and Australians consume an average of 1200 meat pies each per year.
This is our daily breakfast, reflecting the strengths of the Australian agriculture: cereals produced at large scale, dairy products, citrus fruits raised under the sun…
Another strength of Australia: wine, produced in every single state !
Lately, I said I missed red wine, remember ? So I tried some of them – major varieties being predominantly Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot. Good news, as those are my favorite varieties.
A Yellow Tail and an Epicure cheddar ? The perfect mix to chill out !!!
