D215. Apr 2. The Oceanian Alps on a scenic train…

Tranzalpine 1Today, we stop going South for a moment. Indeed, we have decided to get on the “TranzAlpine Train”.

Tranzalpine 2We leave the West Coast from Greymouth, and will reach Christchurch on the  East Coast five hours and 223 km (139 mi)  later, after an amazing crossing of the South Island Mountains… The Alps !

Tranzalpine 3 Kiwi Rail Scenic Journeys operates the line. Nice branding, isn’t it ?

Tranzalpine 4Do you really believe this is a random gorge ? No, it is not.
This is where tectonic plays drama.
On one side you have the Pacific plaque, on the other side the Australia plaque…

Let me display an image gallery… Looking forward receiving your comments dear readers. Capture d’écran 2014-04-02 à 07.17.55

  1. Steph, come on!…you shouldn’t be so cruel with us. Where are the ugly pictures? those days where you can not get out of bed….Or when you have the flu or just fever….what about your blistered feet ? the nasty angle of things?… We need a little bit of balance to put our lives in perspective !!!

    • Carmen – please do not exaggerate !!!! I had already a flu and even more. Besides my comment is that when they made Lord of the Rings there – at least they did not face any protests from the citizens hahahaha, as it seems that there aren’t any 🙂 I love “the before last picture” which Steph likes too – it reminds me Lord of Rings scene when they had walked on the hills covered by snow before the had to go through Moria mines or quarries like we say in Lafarge 🙂 Steph – thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures with us! M

  2. I saw Edoras on the top of this small hill !!! Yes, yes, look better and you’ll see Eowyn, pale as the dawn, waiting for us at the wooden doorway of the Rohirim’s palace !! ^^
